Meet Richard G. Bryan, M.D., Ph.D
Richard Bryan, MD. PhD is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Brown University in Providence, RI who also has a medical and surgical private practice specializing in vitreoretinal diseases. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with high honors from Duke University. From there, he was accepted into the Medical Scientist Training Program at Baylor where he received a combined MD and PhD with a scientific focus on signal transduction within immunology. He then spent one year of a rotating internship again at Baylor before attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison for his ophthalmology residency. He received fellowship training in vitreoretinal disease at Columbia and Manhattan Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York finishing in 2001.

Before coming to Rhode Island in 2005, he spent several years in California in private practice. He has been actively involved in teaching at Rhode Island Hospital to fulfill his passion for training the next generation of ophthalmologists, receiving the teaching award from the residents. He is the current president of the RI Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (RISEPS). Nationally, he has been a long-term member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and participates regularly in their meetings.
At home, he loves to spend time with his wife and adopted daughter running marathons and encouraging his daughter’s competitive diving career.
